Holly is THREE YEARS OLD!
Already she has been sternly reminded that she is 3 years old after destuffing her brand new toy, grabbing it from my clutches forcing a game of chase, hanging back in protest once frisbee time is over refusing to get in the car, and hovering in the kitchen eyeing the countertop while we eat in the other room!
Just wait, I’m told, once a Golden turns one they mellow out, then it’s 2 years old and then I’m told it’s 3! I’m thinking now that it’s not about Holly fully mellowing out but instead about me rallying up. Who doesn’t need a little more humor and fun & games in their life? I’m hoping Holly and I can meet somewhere in the middle and provide a good balance for each other. Now that I’ve spent these months trying to corral her energy and encourage civility, I am now looking at how I can keep her young at heart and maintain her sense of humor throughout her adult years.
Turning 3 started with spending special time with Lana a few days ago and opening her gifts – Kong balls that went everywhere Holly went, including my bed. Then came DeeAnn’s ‘the day before your birthday’ gift – a stuffed baseball mitt with a velcro ball. It was her new favorite toy so later that evening it was a stuffed baseball in my bed. Then today, December 1, the day itself! Extra treats, fresh cooked chicken on her food, car ride, spa time with DeeAnn, dressing up with a new Santa hat, opening more bags of treats, playing with a new learning board and acing it (thanks to Keltie), a few photo shoot sessions and two new Frisbees from DeeAnn that sail forever across the Old Main field (we think because they are not weighed down yet with dirt, spit and whatnot). Messages from friends have been coming in and Holly has heard them all! Apparently Holly turning 3, and hitting maturity, has been on a lot of people’s minds.
And turning 3 has been exhausting for Holly, she is sound asleep in one of her yoga pose positions. It’s tough getting old! I know, Holly. We can do this!
