The days pass with routines, routines that include walks, frisbee, shopping, friends, meals and waiting.  Waiting for the post-election disappointment to lift.  Waiting with anticipation of the house closure and subsequent move of DeeAnn’s belongings from storage to the new home.    Closing is December 3.  And on December 1 Holly will be 3.  2024 is ending with a great deal of transition and lessons in patience and acceptance.

I am trying to prepare myself for the post-move blues that will sweep over Holly, Helen, Gracie and I when DeeAnn, Keltie and Rainie move to their new home.  Holly especially will look to me for continous entertainment and I am certain I will not fulfill expectations like that of Keltie.   The smallest of stuffed toys, the largest of stuffed toys, balls, frisbees, tree branches, garden stakes and if none of those are nearby then plain old mouth wrestling or tail chasing serve as pure entertainment for those two.  It is constant and when the play does stop, their resting even seems to be syncrhonized.

Holly’s excessive scratching and ferocious attention to her anal glands ramped up again these past few weeks.  On a day’s notice, Dougherty Vet took her in for an allergy shot and anal gland expression.   The Golden Curse, they call it – apparently both issues are quite prevalent with the golden retriever breed.  Fortunately there is treatment to help her be more comfortable, albeit it does require a quarterly visit to the vet.

Stay the course. Trust the universe.  Connect with friends.  Engage yourself in meaningful activity whether play or work.  Maintain hope for the future.  Believe. Continue on.
