Tradition continues! The dogs’ annual Easter Egg Hunt was held – 6 dogs looking for 6 hidden eggs. All the dogs are familiar with the game ‘Find It’ and though finding Easter eggs is once a year, they do not forget what an egg looks like! The backyard was smaller than usual, grass seed was covering a quarter of it. Did the dogs care – no. Did the dogs stay off the grass seeded areas – most of the time. Kooper found the hardest one, buried in the toy box. Holly found a couple of them and gingerly carried them in her mouth to me. Normally she plays the ‘come and get it’ game with me but with an Easter egg filled with dog treats she takes a direct route straight to me and willingly places it in my hand. Kimber and Keltie raced around following those who found an egg, then declaring themselves the primary finder. Helen had a disadvantage because the Easter egg was larger than her mouth but she had her nose in there and made certain she received her portion of treats. The Easter egg hunt lasts about a half hour yet once back in the house and settled, all the dogs are taking naps, fully content with the fun and the food they had. Traditions don’t just happen on there own and we have Lana to thank for this one. She plans, organizes and purchases all the egg hunt goodies. It’s just one of the reasons all the dogs love her so much! And me too!
Having six dogs in the backyard attracts attention. Daphne, neighbor Diane’s granddaughter, was visiting and joined the fun. Daphne mentioned to me that she has six books about dogs checked out from the library. I teased her that she has one for each dog then she explained the books were about dog training and didn’t feel these dogs needed the books. I think there was a compliment in there somewhere, and on behalf of Holly – I graciously accepted it!
