The Harvey fence has been installed! Ironically the dogs were just as happy as we were. They raced around their yard in total delight, checking out all the corners and gates. It was a new yard to them, the fact that it was restricting their range was irrelevant. The one with the biggest adjustment was the squirrel who was forced to scramble to find a way out of the yard while a pack of dogs was chasing her. Fortunately after smacking into the wooden fence, the squirrel was able to climb out and escape, dogs left behind enjoying their adrenaline rush and loving the fenced in yard.
After a month of research, getting quotes, drawing up fence plans, changing fence plans and contemplating whether a fence was needed at all – we finally committed and hired the company with the least years experience but the one who showed up on time and was responsive to our questions promptly via text/email. It was a young crew, but an ambitious one and hungry to please. And just plain hungry! They had been working a long hot day so we brought home dilly bars from the Dairy Queen – gone! Kristie and Georgette came by the house late the same afternoon and there was left over pizza and appetizers. DeeAnn brought the leftovers out to them and within minutes – gone! They were polite, respectful and gracious. DeeAnn summed it up with saying, ‘They are treating us like their grandmothers.” We grew to trust their work and became quite fond of ‘the boys’. And so did the dogs. Helen appeared to be the favorite but I think because she was the gold standard. I was frequently asked, “do you think Helen would fit through here?” Noone was concerned about Holly getting through a gap.
DeeAnn and I took a trip to the cabin for typical cabin maintenance work. The dogs played hard and swam hard. The day heated up and the extra swimming felt good. So good that Holly & Helen didn’t mind the bath I gave them in the lake. Later at home, I brushed what seemed like an entire winter coat off from Holly. Even with the wind taking much of the hair, I ended up with a softball size bundle of dog hair. Holly melts into me while I’m brushing her, feeling the coolness of less hair. And I collect and bundle up the loose hair thinking how cool it is that I have this much less hair in my house!
