I’ve heard the phrase ‘writer’s block’ but hadn’t thought too much about it, mainly because I am not writer.  However, it was pointed out to me that I hadn’t written in the blog for a number of days so it got me thinking as to why that was.  There’s been plenty of activity for both Holly & I, and certainly plenty of noteworthy moments.  Indeed with Holly and crew, there always is.  My best guess was I slid into a lull of writer’s block and allowed excuses to fill up my time – too busy, too tired, nothing to say, etc.  New to this, I wasn’t sure how to turn the corner.  I’d start, delete, start, delete, then not start anymore.  I considered cutting the cord and calling it good – a 3 1/2 year run with a blog isn’t a bad record.   Then today, Heartley stopped by!  What better way to jolt oneself out of a frump and back into routine than to have a lively, smiling and creative young girl stop her bike, park it be the garage and walk into the yard asking if she could visit for a little bit.  During the winter months, neighbors and I feel like we are oceans apart.  Come spring, it turns into a shallow river.   Holly and Helen both went ballistic when Heartley appeared, there was no forgetting their girl friend.  Girl friend Heartley is becoming a young lady, taller and stronger and even more confident.  Helen was picked up and held in Heartley’s arms, this time tight and secure with no struggle, unlike how I remember Helen’s legs dangling down and having a bear hug under her front legs.  Holly was scolded for not giving up the ball for fetch which then launched them into a game of chase with the familiar laughter, smiles and wagging tail.   She and I caught up on when school will be done ( said in a blink – 36 days) and agreed a garden should be planted again this summer.   I didn’t realize how much history I had with Heatley until she asked if there would be more apple cider this year and out of the blue asked – Want to take an April picture of Holly, Helen and me?   Well of course I did!  So the traditional pose was created, Helen in Heartley’s arms and Holly holding a ball in her mouth.   Icing on the cake  was her good bye where she asked me if this was the summer she could see the inside of my house.  I’ve always found reasons to keep her as a backyard visitor but today I took the leap and promised Heartley I would invite her into my home this summer.  “Ok, I”m looking forward to it.” she said as she gets on her bike and heads home waving good bye with one hand and steering the bike with the other.  Holly and I stood by the fence, a bit stunned wondering what just happened.

Spring has happened!  It’s time to break out of the winter rut and connect again with outside world!  It’s time to play Fetch, plant gardens, take outdoors pictures and I have to get my home ready for company!
