Another holiday season has snuck up on us!  A quick internet search and we learned Holly could once again see Santa, this time at PetSmart.  Holly has a good memory when it comes to Santa Claus and long white beards.  She has seen four Santa’s and all four have had to save their beard!  She was opportunistic this year, she waited until I was positioning Helen next to Santa and had Santa fending for himself.  Once her giddiness had run its course, she obediently and proudly took her position next to the big red guy with the irresistable beard.

Holly’s enthusiasm about Santa deflates once we are home and I bring the Santa hat out.  She sits still and allows the hat to be placed on her head, her face getting longer and eyes droopier as I am doing so.  Apparently Santa is to be enjoyed as an authentic experience, not to be imitated as a fantasy figure.  She’s a sport about it though,  knowing there are treats involved when all is done.  In the end, we both share festivity.

I added an Advent Calendar to the fireplace mantel this year (Thanks Lana for the idea!) which is very well received by Holly, no head hanging or long face with this tradition!  She is catching on to the routine and in the evenings I will sometimes find her sitting in front of the fireplace staring up at the calendar on the mantel.   I often wonder what Hollly would say if she could talk, then other times I am amazed at how she finds ways to communicate without having to say a word.

A parasite update….Holly, Rainie & Keltie had their stool retested for coccidia on the same day.  Rainie & Keltie – negative!  Holly – negative for coccidia, positive for hookworm.  A new med, a dewormer, was prescribed and given.  Recheck in two weeks.  The saga continues…

Takes more than a worm to dampen our holiday spirit!  This is Holly’s birthday month, her Santa month and our time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year!
