A large white envelope arrived in the mail with big letters of AKC across it and a DO NOT BEND stamp. Holly’s AKC Title for Rally Novice had come! I pulled it out and showed her, doing a happy dance as well. She’s happy when I’m happy and especially so when there are treats involved! It was a big celebration because it was a big deal! Three separate dog shows, scoring 70+ in each of them = a Title. Holly had a 92, 100, and 98. Do not be fooled however – Holly has also found it entertaining to sit dumbfounded after a familiar command then watch me twist, turn, wave, repeat, repeat, and repeat tyring to get her to oblige. When she is ready, she executes perfectly and moves on with me to the next Rally card, and I swear I see a little grin on her face.
Today warranted a trip to the Dairy Queen, complete with pup cups. Grandma Brown, likely the biggest fan of DQ ice cream that I will ever know, passed away 10 years ago today. Grandma and my prior golden, Boden, had a special bond and it was cemented by their shared love for ice cream. Bo would wait patiently while Grandma slowly ate her cone down to the waffled bottom, which was then always given to Bo. Probably goes without saying that Grandma & Holly would have had a special bond as well, with ice cream being the glue again. Who knew, ‘special’ has its own flavor when added to ice cream!
