After moving all of her posssessions from her home to storage on her birthday (Sept 17), DeeAnn, Rainie & Keltie slid over to my home joining Holly, Helen, Gracie and I. The dogs are treating this like a vacation, Gracie is starting to get suspicious about the longevity. House rules are getting established or atleast discussed. Holly & Keltie play, then rest, play, then rest – repeat & rinse. They both feel living with your best friend is heavenly! Holly is learning that living with DeeAnn is interesting. If there is a cap, cup or container near the shape of Holly’s nose, DeeAnn places it there. If a ribbon comes along, it ends up tied on Holly’s ear. If a small lifejacket is nearby, it ends up on Holly’s head. Holly is a great sport about all the fussing, teasing and playfulness. She is learning that humoring us until we tire of the game is the quickest way to ending the silliness.
The weather has been beautiful and now that ‘the move’ is over, we all were able to have a peaceful day at the cabin. Taking the pontoon out for a long ride and casting a line from the dock were highlights for both us and the dogs. Bobber duty was taken seriously by all dogs except Helen, who was most concerned about swimming!
We had a special treat on September 15 when Lanny, Mary, and Lana & Kooper came to Duluth. We all ate at Va Bene then attended the Home Free concert at the Duluth Auditorium. Lana gifted all of us to the concern and the most special occasion was Mary’s 70th birthday being that very day! This group is never short of sharing a good time, stories and also time with the dogs! Holly goes ballistic whenever she greets Lanny, Mary and Lana so her energy was off the charts when all three of them were in the room – which had her leaping right into Lanny’s lap on a couple occasions. Thankfully Lanny’s coffee cup was capped tightly! Rattling through my head is ‘she’s almost 3’.
Blending families has its challenges but watching Holly & Keltie roll with it (literally 🙂 ) helps show the power of friendship. There may be a little more poop to pick up in the backyard, but there are also more smiles and laughs happening! Sharing space and time with those you enjoy and care about brings that out! The poop is easy to pick up and throw away!
