The cabin was spared any damage from the wildfires for which we are forever grateful.  The drive out there today, the Friday before Memorial Day, showed us nothing different than a regular trip.  We thought about turning down the Brimson Road to go look at fire damage but decided against it.  Roads are still closed and crews are still working, our curiosity would not have been appreciated.  At one section on Lower Comstock Road we had a strong whiff of a burning fire, likely a lingering smell of last week’s tense times.   The dogs had their regular exitement (pacing and whimpering) about going to the cabin and this time, we felt like doing the same.  The thought of driving into a burned, charred cabin scenario was too overwhelming to even consider.  So grateful it wasn’t our reality.   It was a short trip but productive one – grass seed watered, lawn mowed, trim done, pontoon started and dogs tuckered out!

DeeAnn & I finally decided on a company to install the backyard fence at the Harvey House.  Yesterday we were walking the proposed fenceline, laying down markers for the fencers to use as their guideline.  Multi-tasking isn’t my strong suit these days meaning watching Holly and doing any other thing is next to impossible, for me.  I noticed the yard was quiet, and when things are quiet it is time to look for Holly.  I spotted her.  Not in our yard, but in the neighbor’s yard – standing on their back deck, looking through the screendoor window with her tail wagging, apparently liking who she saw and introducing herself in golden fashion.  By the time I had cut through the woods to get into their yard, the homeowner had come outside with her big dog.   Holly wanted nothing to do with the big strange dog so she came running directly to me,  apparently thinking I came to rescue her only to find herself tied up for the rest of the morning.   The timing was uncanny.  I apologized to the lady and told her we were just discussing the boundaries of a fence.  Holly was being an opportunist!   She was very understanding and lighthearted about Holly’s peeping tom episode, and of course as we visited her dog stayed in their yard and immediately came to her when she called.

The fence is getting installed next Wednesday.
