Soon 2406 W 8th Street will have a new owner. After 42 years of residency, DeeAnn will be leaving her home. At current, she will be storing her household treasures and living with me. The hunt continues for a sweet single level home that has the appropriate amount of yard space and the door in the right spot for dogs to access it. Details matter.
Lately, primary focus has been about packing and organizing boxes for relocation to the storage shed. DeeAnn is a natural organizer and planner. We seem to be on track for the moving day of September 17 (ironically DeeAnn’s birthday) and the closing day of September 20th. Each day has had it’s own targeted task. The dogs are enjoying this frequent flyer activity at DeeAnn’s house, often times including the acquistion of new toys and/or play sessions in the upstairs bedrooms and basement. Rainie is the only one that shows concern about the disarray of the house; the others treat it like a fresh playground each day. Though Holly has this puzzling response and respect with going down the basement steps. She hovers at the top, watching all the commotion below until one of us entices and reassures her to face her fears. We are not sure why or when that developed but she is showing signs of improvement with each passing day.
Packing up the house has been primary focus but we have taken time to enjoy these last few weeks of summer also. My dear friend, Deb, had a heavenly birthday recently, worthy of celebrating with her husband and our friend, Steve. We met at Warrior’s Brewery to commemorate Deb’s day and share a few stories with a brew or two. Warrior’s is pet friendly so the whole crew got into the action. I think back to when I brought Holly home. Deb was so excited about my new puppy. Everyday she reached out to see how things were going with puppyhood. Other than DeeAnn, Deb & Steve were the first people in my world to meet Holly Dolly. And the pictures of Holly & Deb together are priceless to me. Holly’s affection for Steve is off the charts and she manages to squeak out as much play time and belly rubs from him with every opportunity she has.
DeeAnn had friends to the cabin on this past Saturday afternoon when the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Mo & Tim both had their first pontoon experience on Comstock Lake with Captain DeeAnn, followed by a tasty summer picnic meal. The dogs all joined in on the experience and often were the center of conversation. Everything led to a pleasant day of friendship, food and fun – and exhausted dogs when we returned back home. That is always the icing on the cake!
Time has been tight and weather has been hot/humid, so the dogs have not gotten their typical walks as of late. As a treat, I’ve been taking them into the pet stores more often during my frequent supply stops. Holly has the drill down well when we approach the check out counter. She becomes this sweet, seductive young lady – sitting pretty and staring endearingly at the cashier. She even manages to hide her drool. No doubt, she gets a treat or two. On this particular day, the cashier looks at me and makes comment about Holly being such a polite dog. Timing was impeccable because I was able to smile and reply without any hesitation – this polite dog ate a whole Subway sandwich off the kitchen counter yesterday. The cashier and the whole line of customers behind me laughed as if I was telling a joke. Somehow sharing that story earned Holly another treat from the cashier. “Oh well, that happens”, she said. It’s no wonder Holly loves going there. I guess we all need our safe spots to visit once in awhile.
