The weekend was one of celebrations and remembrances. Keltie & DeeAnn had another Obedience show competing on both Saturday and Sunday. More qualifying scores and more ribbons! The judge was highly complimentary of Keltie, rightfully pointing out that dogs performing so well naturally have amazing handlers. DeeAnn’s repeated work, and work, and work with training Keltie is showing its benefit. A celebration was in order, it involved a hamburger!
Another celebration was held, this one for Rainie. She turned 12 years old, worthy of the traditional hamburger. Plus ice cream!
Our dear friend, Tessie, would have celebrated her 71st birthday this year. We had not seen Tessie’s cemetery marker so with Susie’s (Tess’s sister) directions from recall, we took a road trip to Cloquet to first find the cemetery, then find Tess. Our search was successful! DeeAnn & I took sections and panned the ground eventually spotting her full name, Teresa M. Schneider, and a few inches away an etching of little Helen. Helen loves her walks at cemeteries so she was excited and in good spirits being there. She heard Tess’s name being spoken aloud frequently in a short period of time but I didn’t pick up on any acknowledgement, no head tilting or whining. She seemed herself, as I know her. I was the one fighting a double whammy – seeing Tessie’s name engraved in stone and also Helen’s image on a marker. No doubt Tessie loved her Helen, and Helen loved Tessie. I know Helen adores her current family but I understand too there is no replacing her first mama. We are a placeholder for Helen until that time comes when she is with Tessie again. There will be plenty of stories for them to share when that day comes.
Holly did not win ribbons at dog shows (though she did jump over the 8 inch high bar at Rally Class this week, her goal height being 24 inches). Holly did not have a birthday celebration, YET – coming soon, the big 36 months old event! But what Holly did do is play, tease, taunt, tug, steal shoes and chase.
Life is short. And time flies.
